As an internationally recognised expert on atom probe tomography (APT) with 14-years working experience on the technique, his current research is focused on the application of advanced APT to address the fundamental science of materials, in particular, with emphases on atomic scale microstructural characterisations to address phase transformations and processing-structure-property relationships. Over the last fourteen years, he has led, managed, and worked on a range of research projects which address the formation mechanisms and strengthening effects of solute-nanostructures in advanced light metals (including Al alloys and Mg alloys), nuclear materials (including PV steels, and duplex stainless steels), composites, metallic glass, nanocrystalline materials and functional materials (including semiconductors and nanowires).
